Emily Gagne is a film programmer and critic based in Toronto. The co-host of ongoing screening series We Really Like Her! (which sees her and Danita Steinberg present movies written and/or directed by women at Revue Cinema), she is passionate about promoting marginalized films and filmmakers. Her taste in movies can be defined by what she deems the perfect triple bill: Halloween II, My Girl 2 and Magic Mike XXL.

In 2010, Emily founded Cinefilles, a blog for female film critics. From 2016 to 2017, she produced discussion-based screening series Reel Girl Talk for The MUFF Society, pairing Girl, Interrupted, 9 to 5 and Girlfight with panels on mental health, equity in the workplace, and women in sports.

In recent years, Emily has worked for Canadian Film Centre and Hollywood Suite, the latter for which she serves as an expert on docuseries like A Year in Film and Cinema A to Z.

Emily is the short film programmer for the Gimli International Film Festival, and has moderated industry conversations with the craftspeople behind What We Do in the Shadows (TV series) and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. She has written for such publications as TV Guide Canada, Dread Central and The Mary Sue.

Best Friends Forever, her co-directorial debut alongside Josh Korngut, had its World Premiere at Salem Horror Fest in October 2019 and also screened at Toronto After Dark, Indie Memphis, Morbido, Panic Fest, and the Chattanooga Film Festival.
